You are invited to respond to a survey on research and ethics review and non-research responses of research institutions in Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This survey is being administered by the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme (Kenya), in collaboration with the Africa Health Research Institute (South Africa) and the University of Ghana.
This survey is part of an empirical ethics study on the social and ethical aspects of COVID-19 research and public health response, which has received ethics approval by the Scientific and Ethics Review Unit at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (SSC/SERU/CGMR-C/054/4090). Wellcome and the Science for Africa Foundation have provided funding for this study.
Voluntary Consent: You are being asked to volunteer to take this survey. You can choose whether you would like to be a respondent or not. If you agree, you can change your mind at any time and stop responding to the survey questions.
Procedures and Activities: Questions in this survey cover types of research conducted at your institution, research review systems and the non-research responses of your institution to the COVID-19 pandemic. Completing this survey will take about 10 minutes.
Privacy and Confidentiality: We have taken measures to ensure data privacy and confidentiality of the information you will provide. We will use secure, password-protected platforms at KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme to collect and store the information you will provide. We will not collect identifiable information, such as your name. In addition, we will only report the information in anonymized and aggregated forms to further ensure privacy and confidentiality.
Risks or disadvantages: You will use about 10 minutes of your time to respond to this survey.
Benefits: There are no direct benefits in responding to this survey. However, results of this survey and the wider empirical ethics study may contribute to strengthening the research and non-research responses of research institutions in Africa to public health emergencies.
